As we celebrate the workplace contributions of people with disabilities this National Disability Employment Awareness Month, it’s crucial that we also illuminate the issues that still impede full workforce inclusion. While 57% of companies that participated in the 2023 Disability Equality Index (DEI) indicated that they audit their external-facing digital products for accessibility, just 40% of the same companies reported auditing their internal digital products. Technology can be a barrier or bridge to inclusion depending upon how it is developed and deployed, and far too often inaccessible internal systems and software is preventing people with disabilities from getting hired into companies or promoting up the ranks. This panel will explore strategies and best practices for advancing disability employment outcomes through actions that accelerate workplace accessibility.
