May is both Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month as well as Mental Health Awareness Month. While data indicates the incidence rate of mental health disabilities among Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) is 16.4% compared with 23.9% of White Americans, Asian American Pacific Islanders are reported to be 60% less likely to receive mental health treatment than their White counterparts. This webinar will celebrate the contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islander Americans while examining the stigma of the Model Minority Myth and its related mental health implications along with tactics for demystifying myths and mitigating misconceptions.
